That's the idea!

Minimize (or even close) this window, and you'll see the frameless banner popup window is still there.

The only way to close the banner window in IE (other than Alt-F4) is to click the banner. (NS will show the frame, alas, but otherwise with much of the same functionality.)

Called "interstitials" or "go-behinds" in the advertising industry, this technique is considered less intrusive, and tends to get better results than regular in-your-face popup window ads do.

An additional trick with this implementation is that the frameless banner window will close when clicked -- just after opening a new window from the ad-click.

The script also includes a basic no-right-click feature in the frameless popup window.

Functions:  Launches a frameless (containerless) "go-behind"
            popup banner window that cannot be closed unless
            the banner ad is clicked on. (No-right-click
            feature is included in the popup.) The frameless
            banner window persists, even if the launching
            browser window is closed.  The banner window
            closes once the banner is clicked.

Part I. deals with preparing the page that will launch the
frameless popup window banner.

Part II. deals with preparing the page that is launched in
the popup; this page contains the banner code, etc.

This script set is not recommended for novices.

Netscape Issues:

NS4-6 will show the frame, of course.
NS4-6 ignore the onClick event on the image.
NS6's defective event model may cause the gobehind to fail.
NS6's defective event model may miss the no-right-click.
NB: Overall, however, the banner ad remains effective.
